20/12/2011 – New design tool

After months of testing, Carco has selected COMSOL Multiphysics ® as the best finite elements analysis (FEA) software to support the design of the rubber and plastic seals.

COMSOL Multiphysics ®is a software environment for the modeling and simulation of any physics-based system. A particular strength is its ability to account for multiphysics phenomena. Optional modules add discipline-specific tools for acoustics, batteries & fuel cells, chemical engineering, earth science.

CARCO becomes the sole distributor Dia.Com in Italy and Germany for the diagraphms

23/11/2009 - Largest tire making press in the world sealed by Carco!!

A leading OTR tire manufacturer asked for a sealing solution for the largest tire making press in the world with a 2,5 m (100 inches) ram.
The challenge was to supply the best solution for a unique press with a downtime cost of 150.000 usd per day
CARCO working in team with its local distributor decided to go for a CARCOTEX/SP/SG in split version
Carcotex/SP/SG/Split fits very good with the working conditions of the giant tire press.
The seal has been produced in 2 weeks and delivered to our local distributor which attended the seal installation on the press, supporting with our experience the maintenance people.

06/08/2009 - Carcoseal in hydropower

Carcoseal rotary shaft seals (ap/wt type suitable for pressure) were fitted beginning 2008 on the shafts of 4 kaplan water turbines, previously installed in a power station in Verona (Italy).

The application is critical since the generator is below water level.
To make sure that no water gets into the generator, air pressure at 0,8 bar is kept in the generator chamber by a compressor.
The seals have to keep water out of the generator and air leakage as low as possible; in normal running, compressor should inflate air in the generator chamber every 45 minutes.

Carco intervention was requested by the turbine oem (large multinational oem) as their customer was very unsatisfied after 2 years of poor performance of the original seals: the compressor was inflating air into the generator almost continuously and the risk of water getting into the generator was high; from 2006 to beginning 2008 the original seals had been replaced with the same brand several times with high maintenance costs and frequent turbine shutdown.

In february 2008 Carco staff fitted the Carcoseal kit made of 4 carcoseals with spacers for grease lubrication on the turbines shaft (diameter 240mm, 300 rpm); we fitted 2 Carcoseal kits in endless version in 2 turbines and 2 kits in split version in the other 2 turbines; the split seals were fitted with “isp gluing on site” system.
Carcoseals were supplied in h-nbr rubber compound for higher friction resistance.

We recently had a meeting with the customer, who informed us that all Carcoseals are performing well and compressor is running at a minimum.

On the basis of Carco long tradition in hydropower, we expect our seals to last more than 5 years.

20/07/2009 - Aramid fabric for improved seal performances

:Following our trend of working more on new projects with oems and taking the challenge on difficult repairs, Carco has developed new fabrics and rubbers to expand our product and application range:

Viton + nomex (our code z490)

In case of very high temperature and chemical attack, the traditional fabric (cotton) can suffer and become the weak part of the seal.
For these reasons carcoseal rotary shaft seals and carcotex v-packings are today available also in fkm viton + nomex.
Nomex is an aramid fiber, able to resist heat, flame and chemical attack.
Nomex is a registered brand from dupont.

Nbr + kevlar (our code s890)

When the application requires highest mechanical characteristics from the seal, kevlar fibers can give additional strenght.
Typical application is carcotex v-packings fitted in old hydraulic presses with ram surface showing bad roughness and deep scratches.
Carco can offer customized solutions to reach longer seal life and postpone press revamping; one of these solutions is  carcotex in nbr + kevlar.
Nbr + kevlar offers excellent wearing resistance; it is recommended for ram surface in very bad conditions as kevlar is abrasive and might scratch the new ram.

Hnbr + kevlar (our code ht790) is available on request; hnbr offers higher abrasion resistance than nbr.

Non conductive viton

Carco was recently involved in a submarine project with carcoseal rotary shaft seals.
Customer’s main requirement was that the seal has to be electrically non conductive.
Carco had 3 rubber compounds tested at an italian university and a special type of fkm viton (red colour) on kevlar fiber showed the lowest level of conductivity.
We submitted the test results to the customer and got the approval for the fabrication of the seals.

20/07/2009 - More and more seals…..

Carco is proud to announce the installation of  3 new presses for extra large seals !
During the last months Carco installed in its Italian factory the following compression moulding presses:

1000x1000 mm plate with vacuum chamber
1600x1600 mm plate
2600x2600 mm plate with vacuum chamber

The 2600x2600 mm plate is one of the biggest presses for rubber seals in the world !

14/07/2009 - We are growing…..

To follow his business growth, Carco extends its factory with additional 1500 sqm.
This extension enables Carco to expand the molding department installing 3 new large presses from 1,0 to 2,5 m diameter and to extend the finishing department to improve the handling and the storage of the Xlarge seals.

17/07/2009 - New ISP kit from Carco to glue on site

Carco has developed the “ ISP - gluing on site “ system to satisfy the need of reducing dramatically the time and the cost needed to replace seals in some critical applications.

The use of endless seals has always been compulsory to guarantee best security against leakage, but the need of speeding up the maintenance brought the idea to offer a way to use seals from Carco in split version and bond them on site, without disassembling the complete machinery.

The correct way to glue our seals on site leads to a seal performance which is equivalent to the endless seals.

Enclosed our “Isp” presentation and relevant fitting instructions.

We recommend to have the “Isp“ training to make sure that you get the best out of our “Isp - gluing on site“ kit.

Please contact sales@carco.it for details.
